Germany-based Wacker Chemie AG has finished expanding its Shanghai Technical Center, located at
Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park. The 1 million-euro expansion, which doubled the facility’s total
floor space to 3,400 square meters, is part of Wacker’s long-term development strategy in Asia –
specifically in China – and is expected to boost the company’s local research and development
capabilities and provide optimum customer support for its customers in China.
The facility now includes more than 10 laboratories for Wacker’s silicone and polymer
activities, which serve industries such as textiles, construction, coatings, adhesives,
electronics, cosmetics and home care. Wacker expanded and modernized all existing labs and set up
new ones to meet growing market demand. The facility also houses the sales office, enabling sales
and development teams to work together more closely.
“Even though the economy is going through challenging times right now, Wacker’s commitment to
the Chinese market remains unchanged,” said Dr. Peter von Zumbusch, president, Wacker Chemicals
Greater China. “We will continue to develop the existing local facilities and business here by
making more investments in the coming years.”
