Arvind Builds New Facility
Arvind Brands, the retail subsidiary of Arvind Mills Ltd., India, is setting up a new manufacturing facility in Bangalore with an estimated investment of 180 million Indian rupees (approximately $4 million).According to Darshan Mehta, president, Arvind Brands, the new 100,000-square-foot facility will also perform contract manufacturing for other global companies once the garment market opens up in 2005.Mehta said the new factory will have a capacity of 8,000 shirts a day.“Trial production is under way and we hope the facility will go on stream by the end of this year or by January of 2004,”he said.Last year, the company exported 9 percent of total sales bringing in 2.5 billion Indian rupees. For 2003, the company expects sales to reach 3 billion Indian rupees.
