India-based Century Textiles Ltd. — a producer of shirting, suiting and denim fabric — has
purchased a complete integrated Manufacturing Execution System (MES) from
BarcoVision — a division of Belgium-based Barco NV — for its newly built Birla Century plant
in Jagadia, Gujarat, India. According to BarcoVision, Birla Century Ltd. will be able to optimize
its production cycle using the BarcoVision MES systems. The investment in these systems is a result
of a long-standing relationship between Century and BarcoVision.
The installed system will connect the spinning department, warp-preparation department,
weaving machines, finishing machines, dyehouse and inspection department. Yarn inventory software
will handle the movement of yarns through the plant, and traceability software will allow a
complete tracing of each fabric roll produced in the mill. A total of more than 700 production
machines will monitor the system.
BarcoVision’s SpinMaster, WeaveMaster and QualiMaster software will drive Birla Century’s
spinning, weaving, finishing and inspection operations. In the dyehouse, a fully integrated
Sedomaster/Colormaster will be installed. The dyeing machines, equipped with state-of-the-art
SH2500 controllers based on object-linking and embedding for process control, will be linked via
the Ethernet to the Sedomaster central system.
