From Saturday, April 21, through Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Tüyap Fair, Convention and Congress
Center in Istanbul, Turkey, will host a comprehensive textile trade event gathering machinery,
technology and yarn suppliers for the technical textiles and nonwovens as well as traditional
textile sectors. The event will comprise three shows: Hightex 2012, ITM Texpo Eurasia 2012, and the
9th International Istanbul Yarn Fair.
Organizers are expecting a greater number of both visitors and exhibitors at the event —
dubbed the “Textile Meeting Venue” — because the three shows will be held simultaneously. The Tüyap
Fair, Convention and Congress Center has added three newly constructed exhibition halls, increasing
its event space to 12 halls and a total of 98,000 square meters. Hightex will be located in halls 8
and 9; ITM Texpo Eurasia in halls 2, 3, 4, 7, 10 and 12; and the Istanbul Yarn Fair in halls 5 and
6. The halls will be open from April 21 to 23, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and on April 24 from 10 a.m.
to 6 p.m.
Turkey is among the most important centers of the global textile industry. Its textile and
apparel exports have been steadily rising, and were worth US$21 billion in 2010 (See “Turkey:
Prospering Textile And Apparel Industry,” this issue). The country has seen increased investments
in textile technology in the wake of the recent global economic crisis.
Hightex is touted as the largest technical textiles and nonwovens exhibition in the Middle East
and Eastern Europe.
Hightex 2012
Hightex 2012, the 4th Istanbul Technical Textiles and Nonwovens Exhibition, is touted as the
largest technical textiles and nonwovens exhibition in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
Organized by Teknik Fuarcılık Ltd. with the help of supporting partner the Turkish Textile
Machinery and Accessories Manufacturers Association (TEMSAD), the exhibition will showcase a wide
range of technical textile and nonwovens technologies, raw materials and intermediate products.
Hightex 2010 saw 300 exhibitors, 115 of which were international companies, and 10,000
visitors — 2,850 of whom were international.
Exhibitors at the 2012 show will be indexed into five categories:
- Technology: airlaid, crosslapping, drylaid, meltblown, needlepunch, spunbond, spunlace,
stitchbond, thermobond, weblaid, wetlaid, and wilding; - Machinery: adhesive blend and applications systems; bonding and separation technology; braiding
machinery; CAD/CAM software; coating and lamination systems; converting machinery; cutting and
separation systems; dyeing, printing and finishing machinery; drying systems; embossing machinery;
fiber breaking machinery; flocking-impregnation systems; laboratory measurement equipment; narrow
textile production machinery; needling machinery; nonwoven processing machinery; tufting machinery;
waste packaging and recycling technology; and weaving machinery; among others; - Raw materials: fiber; raw materials and composites; and yarn;
- Finished products: agricultural textiles; apparel textiles; building textiles; cosmetic and
cleaning textiles; ecological textiles; food textiles; geotextiles; home furnishing textiles;
industrial textiles; medical and hygiene textiles; packaging textiles; protection textiles; sport
textiles; and transport textiles; among others; and - Smart textiles: antibacterial textiles; apparel for health; conditioning textiles;
electro-textiles; medical textiles; military textiles; nanotechnological fabrics; new-generation
comfort apparel; protective apparel; smart polymers/materials; smart sportswear; textile-based
conductors; textiles combined with nonwovens; textiles with sensor technology; and wearable
computers.
Turkey’s technical textiles and nonwovens industry is rapidly growing. The country has
increased its investments in technical textiles and nonwovens technology, and is expected to invest
US$5 billion in additional technology over the next four years, Teknik Fuarcılık reports. The most
important developments are anticipated to be in apparel, construction, geotextiles, hygiene and
home applications.
While Turkey’s production of nonwovens and technical textiles has doubled in the last 10
years, market research indicates that annual nonwovens consumption in Turkey and the surrounding
countries is somewhat higher than production.
A myraid of yarns will be showcased at the 9th International Istanbul Yarn Fair.
ITM Texpo Eurasia 2012
Tüyap Tüm Fuarcılık has merged the fourth edition of ITM, Turkey’s International Textile
Machinery Exhibition — and Texpo Eurasia, the 29th International Textile, Weaving, Spinning,
Finishing, Knitting, Hosiery Machines, Related Industries and Chemicals Exhibition – to create the
ITM Texpo Eurasia exhibition. Co-organized by Teknik Fuarcılık and Tüyap Tüm Fuarcılık Yapım A.S¸.
with supporting partners TEMSAD and the Turkish Textile Employers’ Association (TTSIS), the show is
touted as the largest textile machinery meeting of the Middle East and the Balkans, and will be
held triennially going forward.
ITM 2009 saw 1,500 exhibitors from 37 countries and 80,000 visitors. Texpo Eurasia 2011,
held concurrently with the 8th International Istanbul Yarn Fair, saw 450 exhibitors from 31
countries and more than 25,000 visitors from 65 countries.
Exhibitors at ITM Texpo Eurasia 2012 will be organized into the following categories:
- Cotton and fiber preparation machinery;
- Yarn preparation machinery and accessories;
- Yarn twisting machinery;
- Weaving and weaving preparation machinery;
- Flat and circular knitting machinery;
- Hosiery machinery;
- Embroidery and quilting machinery;
- Dyeing, printing and finishing machinery;
- Textile chemicals, laboratory devices and quality control systems;
- CAD/CAM/CIM application and automation systems;
- Machinery spare parts and accessories; and
- Textile chemicals.
Turkey ranks among the top five countries globally in investments of textile machinery. The
country increased its textile machinery imports by 136 percent in 2010 and by 85 percent in the
first half of 2011. Turkey invested in textile machinery valued at more than US$1 billion in 2010,
and its machinery investments are expected to approach US$2 billion in 2012.
9th International Istanbul Yarn Fair
Organized by Tüyap Tüm Fuarcılık, the International Istanbul Yarn Fair is held annually. The
8th edition was held concurrently with Texpo Eurasia 2011.
