Switzerland-based Uster Technologies Ltd., a manufacturer of instruments for quality measurement
and certification of textile materials, reports its Uster® Quantum 3 yarn clearer is suitable for
the growing yarn-making market in South Asia. According to Uster, the textile industry in South
Asia in general and spinners in particular currently are experiencing growth, and Bangladesh is
leading the way. Yarn spinners are seeing increased demand for yarn from both domestic and
international markets.
“Our shipments of yarn clearers in 2010 increased over the previous year,” said Urs Minder,
South East Asia General Manager, Uster. “This represents a significant increase in new projects and
capacity expansions. Bangladesh alone saw several new mills starting up last year.”
Uster reports the region’s growth is creating employment challenges for mills because there
is a shortage of trained and experienced workers. “Where staff is available, they are usually
untrained – and my contacts among mill owners and managers mention the shortage of qualified
people,” Minder said.
According to the company, the new Quantum 3 clearer can help spinners achieve quality
products with or without experienced employees

TextileWorld .com, Sept. 28, 2010). The technology can achieve recommended
yarn-clearing limits based on the “yarn body” concept – balancing yarn quality with optimal mill
productivity. A simple touch of a button generates a clearing proposal to control thick and thin
places as well as deviations in yarn count, while balancing requirements for higher quality or
higher productivity.
