Switzerland-based Clariant has opened a new 14,000-square-meter color and additive masterbatch
plant in Guangzhou, China, to service fast-growing local markets. The facility also will serve as
Clariant’s China-based fiber technology development center. An existing manufacturing site
established in Guangzhou in 1995 will be shut down as the new plant reaches full production.
Clariant operates two other wholly owned masterbatch facilities in China.
“A market as large and complex as China commands the highest level of service,” said Juergen
Heise, head of greater China, Clariant Masterbatches Division. “So the main purpose of this new
plant is to continue delivering the value that comes with local manufacturing.”
“China is the largest growth market in Asia,” said Hans Ulrich Kurtz, head of the
Asia-Pacific Regional Business Unit, Clariant Masterbatches. “The manufacturing companies
establishing themselves here have the potential to develop into leading global suppliers in their
segments. We are identifying these companies and presenting ourselves to them as a strong partner.
Our new plant in Guangzhou is a key factor in the successful implementation of that strategy.”
