Performance Fibers Speeds UpChina Expansion Project
Performance Fibers Kaiping PlantSun Capital Partners Inc.’s affiliate Performance Fibers, Colonial Heights,Va., has accelerated the expansion of its high-modulus, low-shrinkage polyester fiber and fabric conversion facilities in Kaiping, China. “Construction is progressing on or ahead of schedule for both our yarn and fabric expansions,”said H.J. Sha, vice president and general manager, Performance Fibers in Asia. “We expect to start up the new facilities in the first quarter of 2006. This expansion will increase our DSP® yarn capacity and our DSP fabric capacity in China by more than 300 percent.” During the expansion project at Performance Fibers Kaiping Co. Ltd., the company also is building the infrastructure for a further doubling of the expansion capacity. Applications of DSP fibers include tires, hoses, mechanical belts and other engineered reinforcements. In related news, the company announced its Asian subsidiary, Performance Fibers Asia LLC (PFA), has signed an agreement with its joint venture partner Guangdong Kaiping Chunhui Co. Ltd. to acquire Chunhui’s 30-percent stake in Performance Fibers Kaiping, giving PFA total ownership of the operation.
