Specialized Technology ResourcesExpands Testing Labs In China
Enfield, Conn.-based Specialized Technology Resources Inc. (Str) has recently expanded its
apparel and textile quality testing and inspection laboratories in China. The company’s lab in
Shanghai, which opened in November 2003, has grown to 30,000 square feet. Str says the staff also
will increase from 79 to more than 200 by early this year. Meanwhile, the Shenzhen facility in
southern China, which opened in December 2003, has been expanded to 40,000 square feet. This
location will begin providing textile/apparel testing in September.According to the company,
Shanghai and Shenzhen have become the centers of activities for many Str customers and that the
expansion is part of Str’s growth strategy.“We have a 70,000-square-foot, full-service laboratory
in Hong Kong where our business has been growing at a rate of over 20 percent a year, and we
decided our next level of growth should be in China where many of our clients are also expanding
their operations,”said John Gaul, COO.Services Str offers include, among others, testing to the
American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) and American Society for Testing and
Materials (ASTM) protocols for U.S.-sold products, and application of ISO and other international
standards to products sold to Europe and elsewhere.
