The association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT) has announced it will host two
workshops in India — one in Mumbai and another in Ichalkaranji. The workshops will allow Italian
member companies — including Canalair S.p.A., Flainox S.r.l., ITEMA S.p.A., and Smit Textile
S.p.A., among other companies — a chance to present their latest innovations to local textile
companies.
The workshops are part of ACIMIT’s “Machines Italia in India” initiative, which is supported
by the Ministry for Economic Development and aimed at supporting international business activities
in an area undergoing intense economic development. According to ACIMIT, India is the world’s
second-largest market in terms of value for textile machinery imports. In 2011, Italian textile
machinery companies exported machinery worth 133 million euros to India, which represented a
19-percent increase over the total sold in 2010.
“Our companies have been observing developments in India for some time now,” said Sandro
Salmoiraghi, president, ACIMIT. “Business opportunities have multiplied, particularly in recent
years, owing in part to the incentives set up by the Indian authorities to promote the
modernization of local industry.”
