Teijin Twaron Opens Pilot Production Plant

The Netherlands-based Teijin Twaron BV — a member of the Teijin Group, Japan — recently opened a
pilot production plant in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The new plant manufactures Twaron® pulp using
jet-spinning technology, a spinning method not previously used by Teijin for the pulp.

The resulting pulp offers different characteristics when compared to Twaron pulps spun using
standard methods. The company hopes the differences will lead to additional applications for the
product, which has been supplied to certain customers for trials. One noted characteristic is the
pulp’s ability to act as a reinforcing high-temperature binding agent.

Teijin Twaron opened the plant to drive market developments and to perfect the technology.
Currently, the company has no plans for large-scale production there, but that possibility is up
for consideration.
