ITM Texpo Eurasia 2012 Exhibition brings together the world’s leading textile technology
manufacturers in Istanbul and is organized on 21-24 April 2012 at Tuyap Beylikduzu Fair and
Congress Center. TANATEX Chemicals and the exclusive Turkish distributor SPOT Tekstil A.S. will
introduce sustainable solutions for the textile industry during this international exhibiton.

BE GREEN CONCEPT

As the world’s most valuable resources are becoming scarce, bleaching cellulosics to obtain a
high quality standard, via an environmentally friendly method, saving energy and decreasing water
consumption, became the latest challenge in textile processing. BE GREEN is an environment friendly
pretreatment concept to face this challenge, developed by TANATEX Chemicals. The wet application of
textile requires huge amounts of water, energy and harsh chemicals. As most of the processes are
running at high temperatures, high consumption of gas is needed for generating steam and water
heating. This results in a high CO2 emission. TANATEX has developed the BEGREEN Concept which
ensures bleaching at only 75°C (normal 95°C – 98°C). Reducing the temperature immediately reduces
the consumption of methane gas and therefore the emission ofCO2. The BE GREEN concept is consists
of two products; TANASPERSE® BE, TANEDE® GREEN. It is suitable for all cellulosics and cellulosic
blends in exhaust method. This process decreases water consumption, saves time and energy, reduces
COD und BOD in waste water up to 25% and improves yarn and fabric quality due to mild treatment
(handle, DP- value, weight loss). The products themselves are GOTS certified, comply with Öko-Tex
Standard 100 and all RSL (restricted substance list) demands. Additionally textile factories which
implement the BE GREEN method can use the label ‘approved company status’.

CRADLE TO CRADLE: EPIC3

Cradle to Cradle is the certification managed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation
Institute(C2CPII) – previously managed by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC). It is a new
approach to sustainable designing, brought forward in the book “Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way
We Make Things (2002)” by William McDonough and Michael Braungart. MBDC’s Cradle to Cradle™ (often
written as C2C) protocol envisions every resource used to make products as a safe nutrient in an
endless cycle.

Cradle to Cradle Design takes its inspiration from nature, in which there is no place for the
concept of waste, but in which waste = food. ‘Cradle to Cradle’ is the antidote to the ‘Cradle to
Grave’ paradigm, where product cycles are not really cycles but mostly half cycles in which
products, after their useful life, are put out of sight in landfills. The purpose of the Cradle to
Cradle Design is to restore continuous cycles of biological as well as technical nutrients with
long terms positive effects on profitability, the environment and human health.

Cradle-to-Cradle is a relatively new concept in textiles and TANATEX is so far the only
textile chemicals supplier with a full-fledged C2C system certification.

Selected products for this special project are:

TANNEX® NOVECO — Multi-purpose, clay-based product, bleach stabilizer

PERSOFTAL® L — Dyebath lubricant, fatty based

LEVEGAL® 221 — Levelling agent for vat dyeing

PLEXENE® QXL — Biodegradable sequestrant for bleaching and dyeing

RESPUMIT® BA 2000 — Biodegradable, natural oil based defoamer

TANATERGE® M-RE — Postscouring agent for reactive dyeings based on minerals

BAYLASE® CS — Non-GMO biopolishing enzyme

PERSOFTAL® EP 6450 — Softener, partially based on natural raw materials (lanolin)

ActiproTM – probiotic finish

A lot of textile materials are trapping dust and debris during their use. The contaminated
textiles are an ideal growing place for unwanted bacteria, like mattresses, carpets and filters.
Science supports the fact that carpeted rooms help Asthma patients to breathe easier as the pollen
and dust are captured by the carpet yarns, preventing them to get airborne again after movement in
a room. Unfortunately it also creates an ideal food source for bacteria and House Dust Mite. Bad
bacteria are present on a lot of textiles and they multiply quickly because it provides an abundant
food source to them. Anti-bacterial products are used in general to prevent bacterial
growth, however the antibacterial way is a destructive method for pathogens but also for the
positive micro-organisms and necessary skin flora of humans. Bacteria by nature adapt themselves in
harsh environments and become resistant to the antibacterial products more and more. There is a
need for a positive approach as antibacterial products are not the solution to the problem.

Actipro™, the probiotics concept is the opposite of antibiotics and means “for life”, not
against it! Actipro™ is completely composed of natural ingredients. The active components are
present on the Qualified Presumed Safe (QPS) list of the European Food and Safety Association
(EFSA). The micro-organisms in Actipro™ are attached to the fabric using natural clay technology.
It can therefore be said that we have found a natural solution for combating allergens in textiles.

Benefits are: Bad bacteria and fungi get no chance to grow and reproduce;
Neutralization of house dust mite allergens; Reduces bad smells; ActiproTM treated textiles contain
99% less bad bacteria compared to untreated textiles; Biological product and no negative effects on
humans.
