Teijin Begins Production of Teijinconex® neo, Opens Technology Development Center

Teijin Corp. (Thailand) Ltd. — a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-based Teijin Ltd. — now is producing Teijinconex® neo at its facility in Ayutthaya, Thailand. The company reports this is a new type of highly heat-resistant and dyeable meta-aramid fiber suitable for protective apparel. The new 22,985-square-meter (m2) site broke ground in December 2013 and cost approximately 4.5 billion yen.

The facility will produce 2,200 tons of Teijinconex per year initially.

“Teijin first began operating in Thailand in 1966 and now has seven group companies with 1,500 employees,” said Tadashi Sakata, president, Teijin Corp. (Thailand). “We are also expanding our automotive rubber materials business in Thailand and are shifting polyester fibers production to this market from Japan. Going forward, we will upgrade our production and processing capabilities for high-performance fibers by steadily introducing advanced technologies in Thailand, the hub of the ASEAN region.”

In other company news, Teijin Ltd. has opened a Technology Development Center at its Matsuyama Factory in Japan. The 7,700 m2 center is equipped with a variety of technologies for design, test production, measurement analysis and evaluation. Teijin will use the facility as a central base for high-performance materials solutions development researching cross-business solutions in order to strengthen the company’s long-term growth. Research areas of interest include high-performance composite materials, monitoring services, smart wearables and super-tough lightweight structural materials featuring high-performance materials and information technology.

Teijin recently began production of Teijinconex® neo in Thailand.
