Lurgi Zimmer To Build PBT Plant In China

Lurgi Zimmer GmbH — a polymer technology solutions provider and subsidiary of Germany-based Lurgi
GmbH — has entered into a contract with China-based Xinjiang Blue Ridge Tunhe Chemical Industry Co.
Ltd. to build a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) plant in the Xinjiang province for textile
applications and engineering polymers. Lurgi will supply the engineering, technology, equipment and
supervision services for the plant.

The new plant — which is scheduled to come on line in 2009 — will manufacture PBT chips with
pure terephthalic acid and butanediol as raw materials, using Lurgi’s Zimmer® continuous
polycondensation technology with tetrahydrofuran recovery. The Xingjiang facility will be Lurgi’s
fifth PBT plant in China using polycondensation technology.
