Novozymes Heads To India

Prompted by growing demand for enzymes in Asia, the Netherlands-based Novozymes A/S is to build
a new office and laboratory facility in Bangalore, India. The company has outgrown its current
sales office in Bangalore, and the new facility – scheduled to open in mid-2008 – will
employ 50 to 60 associates. The company also will establish its first research and development
(R&D) department in India to focus initially on optimizing enzyme properties.

“We are really looking forward to seeing a new R&D organization grow in India,” said Torben
Vedel Borchert. “There are a large number of skilled scientists speaking perfect English. In the
long term, we also envisage the new unit as a natural bridge to Indian academic institutions and
local biotech companies specialized in protein optimization and bioinformatics.”
